Where are They Now?

After the competition we often find ourselves suffering from depression, sadness and a sense of being alone. Dr's have said it is very similar to post partum depression after woman deliver babies. It is a natural feeling after you have spent 3 months getting to know those in the competition, and then to drop off and not have any contact with them

Lets take this time to look back a little on the competition as well as see where a few of the competitor are now and what they have been doing after the competition.
One little unknown fact about the behind the scenes of the competition. Ciara sent a large pizza to Gentry two days prior to the final weigh in. He was unable to resist and ate the entire pizza without dabbing the grease off with a paper towel. Some feel that is what tipped the scales to allow Ciara to take 1st place!
As of this posting the BLBV2 website has had 983 visitors. 918 of those were within the USA, 32 from mother Russia, 8 from Germany, 7 from the United Kingdom and some from Bulgaria, Estonia, Croatia and Malaysia. That is pretty wild. Lets hope the final viewing of the competition bumps us up to 1,000 page views.

This was the only weight loss competition to actually have a competitor attempt to loose weight by riding a bike and throwing themselves at the pavement in order to shed a few pounds of skin and muscle tissue. This person did take 2nd place so it may have been well worth it.

We had 7 competitors break a century mark during the competition. Changing the first digit of your weight is a huge step in ones weight loss journey and we had 7 people take that step.

The group lost 308 pounds together that is an average of about 11.5 pounds for each competitor.

Lets look at some of the competitors and what they are doing now

Karen is getting ready for the Spud-man Triathlon along with Joe, Kim, Kelly, Nikki, Travis, Cami, Chaz, Chance, and Hailee. Pictured Karen just finished a 5 mile run in Vegas in preparation for the 10 K portion of the race!

Joe on the other hand prepares for the Spud-man by eating Fried Chicken and biscuits from Church's Chicken in North Las Vegas. I got to tell you this was the sketchiest place I think I've ever been in my life.

Frank continues delighting children as the black spider man. To hire him for your party call 801-955-9621

Joani pictured receiving her Week 9 biggest loser award. As you can see she continues her weight loss journey at the gym every day. She has committed to participating in an Iron Man Triathlon with hopes of one day competing in Kona!

Scott was noticed while working out at the gym by a talent scout. This helped him begin men's swimwear modeling.

Misty and Jennifer have started competing in synchronized swimming. They currently are rated 22 in the nation for woman's couples in the category dramatic twist. Nicely done!

Jennifer was unable to make the final weigh in because she was out of town, but she ran 10 miles that morning!

The Final results!

The competition has finally drawn to a close. The competition was hot and heavy as competitors battled for the title of BIGGEST LOSER! When the dust finally settled CIARA did work and was crowned the winner and all the prize money with it $340 US, but that was not without a fight. Kim finished just .66% behind to be named the 1st runner up and received $100US. Gentry had an amazing weight loss journey receiving the tiara and the title of 2nd runner up, and 25$ US and $25 gift card to bout time. Kelly put the vacation behind her and showed that despite what is going on in your life weight loss (magic) can happen, she finished as the third runner up, along with $18 cash money! Congratulations to all the winners!

Congratulations to all who participated in the competition, you are part of only 20% of all Americans still sticking to their new years resolution and for that you are all winners. It doesn't take a slip of paper, or cash money to say your a winner. It is said every time you jump on the scale without cringing, it said each time you can say no to dessert, it is said each time you increase your mileage on your Saturday run, or add another 20 Lbs to your bench max. It is said each time you look into the mirror and say daaamn Girl! It is said each time you shake off the dust of night and head to the gym at 6:00 AM, or when you choose the gym over prime time television programing. It is whispered in you ear when you say salad with dressing on the side when those fries sound so good. YOU ARE A WINNER!

Team Biggest Loser, The New You In 2-0-1-2 is also a winner! As a group we lost an amazing 308.9 Pounds! WE ARE WINNERS!

The Final Weigh-In

Many have inquired about the final weigh-in. With this being week 10 we are only two weeks from the end of the competition. therefore the final weigh in will be either Friday March 23rd or Saturday March 24th. If we did it Friday it would be an evening weigh-in and if we did it Saturday it would be an early morning weigh-in. Please leave a comment on this post with your vote and we will determine by Wednesday what the date will be to give everyone ample time to arrange their schedule to be there.

Also, as is shown on the side of the blog there are some competitors who have not paid. Please turn the money in as soon as you can. It would be a shame to have those who have worked so hard receive less than they anticipated.

Rules Infraction Comitees Findings Case #33214-KT

The Biggest Loser Rules Infraction Committee has just released a full detailed report of their findings on case #33214-KT. The Committee was given the task of determining if Kimmerer Terry was in violation of CFR-19-216 stating that no body part is to be amputated during the competition.

The committee has determined that though as much as 3.78 pounds of flesh and skin were removed by Kim and deposited on 4100 S. The body tissue will have fully regenerated within 3-4 weeks. Dr. Vanostrin of the clinic stated " This may have caused a decreased weight for Kim in weeks 6-10, but by the final weigh-in, the drastic attempt by Kim to shed a few pounds will have no effect on his weight, in fact the large amount of scar tissue may increase his final weight by nearly .02 pounds."

The Biggest Loser accepts the findings of the rules infraction committee, but does not take the actions of Kim lightly. The Biggest Loser staff would also like to remind everyone that this is a friendly competition to help all involved loose weight, get healthy and start a new life. When the competition gets to the point that we are doing more harm to our bodies than good we are all losers (not in a biggest loser way either).

Week 10 Results

Gentry Is this weeks Biggest Loser dropping 1.83%! Ciara the competition leader came in second with a .87% as those two battle along with Kim for the Biggest Loser for the competition. Gentry says he owes his weight loss to the new Taco Bell Doritos taco shell, he said after eating it he had it coming out of both ends.

This was the groups least successful week, but we still managed to not have a loss. The group was a big 0 for week 10. Good luck to every on as things start to get heated.

The Standings

Let the games begin! We are now down to the last two weeks and things are really starting to heat up. Ciara has managed to keep her lead and as we enter the last turn she looks to keep the competition in her rear view mirror. It looks like Kim and Gentry are the only ones who can catch her, unless some valiant effort is made or someone has done some sandbagging in their reporting. Gentry Jumped Kim and is now in second as Kim was off vacationing and sucking down crab legs and Macadamia nuts like they were oxygen. Aubray also snuck into 4th place as the other vacationers slipped.

The Group has lost a total of 265.10 Pounds!

The Standings

Below are the current standings for the Biggest Loser Best Valley. Ciara widens the gap between her and 2nd place, and is starting to look like the best choice for first place. Will anyone step up and challenger her? Only time will tell. Kim is sitting in second place, but Gentry's monster performance the last month is putting some heat on the man who is not afraid to get a little messy for a competition. Joe a ways behind is sitting in 4th place. Misty jumped an impressive 4 spots, but Joani was this weeks big mover climbing 10 spots!

It should noted to those thinking of making a move here in the last 3 weeks of the competition. three contestants in the top 5 are just finishing a two week cruise so there will most likely be some weight gain and a chance to get into the race for the money. So now is the time to start making the move and jockeying for position.

Possible Rules Infraction?

It is with great sorrow that the rules committee has just received saddening information of a possible rules infraction. In the initial post the rules were clearly put forth for the competition. In the CFR 19-2 paragraph C-2 it clearly states "There is to be no amputation of any kind by any of the contestants during the competion. If for life threatening circumstances a contestant needs any sort of amputation a Dr's note along with the exact weight of the removed body mass is to be submitted to the Biggest Loser's front offices within 7 days of the amputation."

The Biggest Loser is sad to report that the attached picture was submitted by an anonymous concerned citizen claiming Kim may have violated this rule. Apparently Kim left a large sum of skin and muscle tissue on 4100 S. and 6200 W. As the Biggest Loser medical staff has viewed the picture and crash sight they have determined it could be as much as 3.25 pounds of body tissue that Kim strategically left on the road. The rules infraction committee has received none of the required paper work and has started an investigation into the mater.

The infractions committee will be continuing this investigation and many contestants may be subpoenaed and questioned. And this will all occur while Kim is soaking in the warm waters of Hawaii so don't feel so bad for him

Week 7 Results

The week belongs to Aubray putting down a 3.37% weight loss! She is the recipient of the golden cheesecake award. Kim looks like his old self posting a fantastic 1.81% for the first loser. Gentry was not far behind with a 1.76%. Misty with a .61% rounds out those who reported and showed a loss. Lets give the top 4 a water melon cheer. The group lost 9.6 pounds. On a down point 11 people did not report. Lets give them a collective sigh and stink eye.

The weights are in and Ciara retains the top spot, but not without a challenge from Kim just .21% away, however with the rules infraction the committee is still determining if his weight will count. GENTRY is making some major noise jumping up 3 spots to get a taste of the glory. Chance's failure to report is just a very sad sad day,but he's in 4th place.

At the half way point of the competition those fighting for the cash prizes are jockeying for position. However, as Kim showed the first month of the competition it still can be anyone's for the taking. The top 3 spots remained the same with Kim leading the competition. Scott fresh off his vacation has the weight just dripping off of him taking second place with .89%, but just right behind him in second was Curt .88%. The group lost a not so fantastic 3.2 pounds this week. Don't get discouraged with the lack of weight lost, as we learned a few weeks ago when building muscle and losing fat you may not see the pounds falling off. What Makes Up a Calorie?

Calories are a unit of energy that our bodies use to fuel our body functions and movements. All the calories that come from food come from three sources, well actually four; fat, protein, carbohydrates and alcohol (we will just focus on the BIG 3). For each gram of each of these macronutrients (can you say that with me? All together Macro-nutrients) there is an associated amount of calories. For each gram of fat there is about 9 calories (there are probably some decimals) , one gram of protein = 4 calories and one carbohydrate is 4 calories, alcohol is 7 calories per gram. So yes you can have 2 grams of protein and carbs and still have less calories than you would for 1 gram of fat. So when you see on the label calories from fat this is where it comes from. They could also have it labeled calories from protein and calories from carbs.
Let’s use this nutritional fact as an example

18 grams of fat= (18*9)=162 calories from fat
4 grams of carbs=(4*4) 16 calories form carbs
4 grams of protein =(4*4) 16 grams of protein
194 total calories

You may notice a small discrepancy in the calories through addition and those shown on the nutritional facts that is usually because the manufacturer can remove insoluble fiber from the total calories per serving, because insoluble fiber passes through the body without being converted to energy, so they don’t need to show it.

As far as the ratio between the 3 for your daily caloric intake the numbers vary, and ultimately it comes down to figuring out what works best for you. The general consensus between all the varying information is your carbs should account for about 50-55%, while protein should be around 20-30% and fat 15-25%. For those who are trying to lose weight the proteins should defiantly be around 30% and less in the fat intake.

Ultimately if you over consume either of the 3 macronutrients the excess calories will be converted to fat and stored for your body to use at another time(at least that’s your bodies future plan). The difference between the 3 comes from what it takes to actually convert itself to the fat to be stored. For both protein and cabs it actually takes about 25% of the excess calories to convert it to fat. Fat however only takes 3% of the excess calories to convert it. So if you over consumed 100 calories from each of the macronutrients your body would store up only 75 calories of the 100. While the fat calories would hoard 97 of those calories. So if you’re going to over indulge make sure you do it with carbs and proteins.
Finally I found this, check it out. It shows various pictures of food portioned out to 200 calories. It might help when you just want to get full and not consume lots of calories.

Omega-3 the Miracle Supplement

What is Omega 3?

Omega-3 essential fatty acids, also known as polyunsaturated fatty acids, are necessary for a variety of body processes including effective blood clotting, inflammation reduction and maintaining cellular membrane fluids. Omega-3's can't be produced the body and must be obtained from diet. Symptoms of omega-3 fatty acid deficiency include poor memory, dry skin, fatigue, heart problems, depression, mood swings and poor circulation.
Omega-3 cannot be produced in the body so it must be supplemented through diet
Fish Oil is the most common and popular place to obtain the omega 3 EPA and DHA. According to the American Heart Association, fish high in omega-3 include salmon, herring, mackerel, tuna, and sardines. Flax seeds are another popular source of obtaining omega 3. Of course over the counter pills are a great source and now there are even prescription forms of the Omega 3.

What are the health benefits of taking omega 3?

The Health benefits of Omega 3 are plentiful and widespread they include the following:

1. It helps in the reduction of triglycerides by up to 50 %. Reducing your chance of heart disease and diabetes.
2. Research has shown that omega 3 is good for lowering the risk of heart attack by 28%
3. Omega 3 reduces inflammation and pain associated with exercise
4. Increases brain function, memory and can increase IQ
5. Increases both male and female fertility along with improving and balancing hormone levels
6. Lowers depression levels for people with depression issues

How much omega 3 should I be taking?

The American Heart Association suggests partaking of 2 serving of fish per week to get you that fix. However this is simply not enough omega 3, to do all the magical things that omega 3 does. It all comes down to what you are trying to accomplish when using omega 3. If you are younger and trying to reduce your chances of heart disease then approximately 900mg is suggested. If you have high triglycerides and are trying to lower them as much as 1,800 mg can be taken, but if you are taking this much you will want to be discussing the matter with a Dr. and considering the prescription style omega

Omega 3 is simply a must in anyone’s diet because of all the benefits and lack of adverse side effects. Without adding too much extra information a problem that continues to be studied is an imbalance of our omega 6 to omega 3 consumption in the modern diet. Omega 6 is obtained through grains and seeds. Most diets in the Western world are high on grains and low on Marine life thus creating a greater gap between a proper 4:1 ratio to something like 20:1. As you add omega 3 to your diet this ratio is brought back closer to the suggested ratio and your chances of having diabetes, cancer and depression is greatly reduced.

Saturday Extravagnza and Fun Run

The first month of the competition is over and to celebrate the group got together for a little run, a little fun and a little food. For those who missed it here is a quick update.

The morning started with a run some chose the 1.2 mile option others chose the 5K option. As contestants used their free agency to choose their distance, they had to accept the consequences. . . . fun.

Upon finishing the run contestants were treated to a fantastic spread of a low fat/low calorie feast, prepared by Karen (bless her heart). Stories were shared, weight loss tips exchanged and tears shed during consumption. Joe's biceps grace the top portion of the picture

Official weights were taken for those looking to receive the 1st months prize as well as be eligible for next months. For dramatic affect the tomato scale was brought back out of retirement.

The Awards and cheesecake slices were handed out to the rightful recipients. Above Travis accepts his week 3 Biggest Loser award

Ciara's award was accepted on her behalf by Chance.

Kim receiving his award for the Biggest Loser of the month by dropping 10.5% of his weight. Kim said he will hang the award in his garage over his #1 ribbon for the West Valley Tri as this is now the greatest moment of his life.

Abdominal Fat

Although this picture depicts an extremely overweight man, this article applies to dangerous types of fat inside the bodies of both men and women... and this discussion also applies even if you only have a slight amount of excess stomach fat.

Did you know that the vast majority of people in this day and age have excess abdominal fat? It's true -- as much as 70% of the population in some "westernized" countries such as the US and Australia are now considered either overweight or obese. The first thing that most people think of is that their extra abdominal fat is simply ugly, is covering up their abs from being visible, and makes them self conscious about showing off their body.

However, what most people don't realize is that excess abdominal fat in particular, is not only ugly, but is also a dangerous risk factor to your health. Scientific research has clearly determined that although it is unhealthy in general to have excess body fat throughout your body, it is also particularly dangerous to have excess abdominal fat.

There are two types of fat that you have in your abdominal area. The first type that covers up your abs from being visible is called subcutaneous fat and lies directly beneath the skin and on top of the abdominal muscles.

The second type of fat that you have in your abdominal area is called visceral fat, and that lies deeper in the abdomen beneath your muscle and surrounding your organs. Visceral fat also plays a role in giving certain men that "beer belly" appearance where their abdomen protrudes excessively but at the same time, also feels sort of hard if you push on it.

Both subcutaneous fat and visceral fat in the abdominal area are serious health risk factors, but science has shown that having excessive visceral fat is even more dangerous than subcutaneous fat. Both types of fat greatly increase your risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, sleep apnea, various forms of cancer, and other degenerative diseases.
Excess stomach fat has also been associated in studies with higher levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), an indicator of inflammation within the body that can lead to heart disease and other health issues.

Part of the reason visceral fat is particularly dangerous is that studies show that it releases more inflammatory molecules into your system on a consistent basis.

One of the major reasons that some people accumulate more visceral fat than others can be from a high carbohydrate diet that leads to insulin resistance over time (years of bombarding your system with too much sugars and starches for your body to properly handle the constant excess blood sugar) ... and studies show that high fructose intake particularly from high-fructose corn syrup can be a major contributor to excess visceral fat.

If you care about the quality of your life and your loved ones, reducing your abdominal fat (including reducing visceral fat) should be one of your TOP priorities! There's just no way around it. Besides, a side effect of finally getting rid of all of that excessive abdominal fat is that your stomach will flatten out, and if you lose enough stomach fat, you will be able to visibly see those attractive six pack abs that everyone wants.

So what gets rid of extra abdominal fat, including visceral fat?
Is there actually a REAL solution beyond all of the gimmicks and hype that you see in ads and on commercials for "miracle" fat loss products?

The first thing you must understand is that there is absolutely NO quick fix solution. There are no pills or supplements of any sort that will help you lose your abdominal fat faster. Also, none of the gimmicky ab rockers, rollers, or ab belts will help get rid of abdominal fat either. You can't spot reduce your stomach fat by using any of these worthless contraptions. It simply doesn't work that way.

The only solution to consistently lose your abdominal fat and keep it off for good is to combine a sound nutritious diet full of unprocessed natural foods with a properly designed strategic exercise program that stimulates the necessary hormonal and metabolic response within your body. Both your food intake as well as your training program are important if you are to get this right.

I've actually even seen a particular study that divided thousands of participants into a diet-only group and an exercise & diet combined group. While both groups in this study made good progress, the diet-only group lost significantly LESS abdominal fat than the diet & exercise combined group.

Now the important thing to realize is that just any old exercise program will not necessarily do the trick. The majority of people that attempt getting into a good exercise routine are NOT working out effectively enough to really stimulate the loss of stubborn abdominal fat. I see this every day at the gym.

Most people will do your typical boring ineffective cardio routines, throw in a little outdated body-part style weight training, and pump away with some crunches and side bends, and think that they are doing something useful for reducing their abdominal fat. Then they become frustrated after weeks or months of no results and wonder where they went wrong.

Well, the good news is that I've spent over a decade researching this topic, analyzing the science, and applying it "in the trenches" with myself as well as thousands of my clients from all over the world to see what works to really stimulate abdominal fat loss.

From my research, two of the most important aspects to getting rid of visceral fat are:

1. The use of high intensity forms of exercise and full-body resistance training. Low intensity cardio exercise simply isn't as effective for removing visceral fat in particular. High intensity exercise such as interval training or full-body weight training are very effective at helping to improve your body's ability to manage glucose and increases insulin sensitivity, a crucial step in removing visceral fat. These types of high intensity exercise routines are also very effective at increasing your fat-burning hormones and creating a hormonal environment conducive to burning off abdominal fat, including visceral fat.

2. In addition, it's vitally important to get blood sugar under control to help restore insulin sensitivity through the right nutrition. This means greatly reducing sugars and refined starches in your diet (including fully eliminating any use of harmful High fructose corn syrup and focusing more of your diet on healthy fats (such as avocados, nuts, seeds, coconut fat, olive oil, free-range eggs, fatty fish and fish oils, etc), as well as increasing protein and fiber intake. The standard diet recommended by the government, which contains an unnaturally high grain intake is NOT conducive to controlling blood sugar and reducing visceral fat!

Reducing grain-based foods in your diet and getting more of your carbs from veggies and high fiber fruits such as berries can go a long way to helping to solve this problem.

Ciara takes the coveted 1st spot of the biggest Loser, breaking up the power grip the Terry family had on the top 3 spots. This dropped Kim down to 2nd place after being on top for week one. The top two contestants have both received the cheesecake prize so hopefully we will see them drop in the weeks to come. Chelsea steps up to round out the top 3 with a great week. Good luck to all the contestants.

The More You Know

Fat VS Muscle

Joe sent me the attached picture that absolutely blew my mind. In the picture is a model depicting 5 pounds of fat and 5 pounds of muscle. This led me to want to look into fat vs. muscle.
Fat
Fat is essential to have in our body fats store energy, insulate us and protect our vital organs. They act as messengers, helping proteins do their jobs. They also start chemical reactions that help control growth, immune function, reproduction and other aspects of basic metabolism. It’s when we have an imbalance in fats that they start to become a burden for our body and even deadly.
The cycle of making, breaking, storing and mobilizing fats is at the core of how humans and all animals regulate their energy. An imbalance in any step can result in disease, including heart disease and diabetes; it can also place strain and harden your arteries.
Body fat is completely related to calories, and the amount that we have is directly influenced by the number of calories consumed versus calories expended. Calories consumed obviously come from the foods we eat. It is important to recognize that when we consume any type of food in excess, whether it is carbohydrates, protein or dietary fat, it will be converted to body fat.
The flip side of the equation is calories used or expended. This brings exercise to mind, however, your body also expends calories in other ways. We focus on exercise because it is the method that can be most easily manipulated. Any form of exercise, at any intensity—aerobic training, resistance training, going out for a walk or performing a spring workout—burns calories and is, therefore, better than doing nothing at all. With all of this in mind, it is also important to understand that those thousands and thousands of individual fat cells that give us those nice love handles act as one unit and essentially have three options: 1.grow and possibly divide 2. rest as is or 3 shrink in size. The option your fat cells will choose completely depends on the calories you consume versus the calories you burn in your daily activity
When you burn more calories than you consume, your body uses fat (triglycerides) for energy. This causes your fat cells to shrink. In turn, triglycerides are broken down into two different substances — glycerol and fatty acids — which are absorbed into your liver, kidneys and muscle tissue. From there, the glycerol and fatty acids are further broken down by chemical processes that ultimately produce energy for your body.
These activities generate heat, which helps maintain your body temperature. The resulting waste products — water and carbon dioxide — are excreted in urine and sweat or exhaled from your lungs.
Muscle
Muscle is very different from fat. Each muscle is made up of thousands of individual cells, also called muscle fibers. While the number of muscles cells/fibers cannot increase, each individual muscle fiber has the potential to increase in size, density and efficiency. These changes may occur together but not necessarily to the same degree, however, all will translate to an increase in strength.
Unlike fat, strength gains are not related to calories; changes in the muscle physiology and resulting increases in strength do not occur as a result of dietary intake. Assuming you are eating
a well-balanced diet, changes within your muscles are most influenced by the direct stresses that you place on each of them individually. These stresses can be through job-related activity, daily chores, aerobic activity or strength training. The key factor is that the muscle will only react if the stress placed on it exceeds the everyday stress it is accustomed to.
Again, this doesn’t mean you need to get to the gym forgo cardio and start lifting weights; however muscle is often associated with weight/resistance training because this is the easiest way to control and monitor the stress being placed on the muscle. It is also very effective because you can isolate any muscle and do so in a safe environment. A duke university study showed that when individuals ran consistently they reduced the amount of fat between their organs far more than those who strictly lifted weights. So a steady dose of both weight training and cardio will be the best bet to take care of all the fat throughout the body.
Muscle burns more calories than fat, according to the Mayo Clinic. Even when your body is at rest, you burn more calories with muscle mass than you do without. This is largely due to the fact that muscle is "metabolically" more active than fat, causing an increase in calories burned on any given day. Claims vary greatly on the average calories burned by muscle and by fat, which can make it difficult to discern a precise number. Some people claim that a pound of muscle burns upward of 50 calories a day, while others argue that each pound burns only an additional 5 calories over a 24-hour period. Regardless of who is correct, you're still burning more calories with muscle than with fat, since 1 lb. of fat is said to burn a total of 3 calories a day.
Fat has 3 times more volume than muscle. This is where the common phrase “muscle weighs more than fat,” comes from. The previous statement is a false statement because one pound of anything will weigh the same as one pound of something else. Although the statement is not correct the theory behind the statement is. Muscle is denser than fat and therefore takes up less room than fat. So if you burn 5 pounds of fat on your body and build 5 pounds of muscle in its place your body will have less volume. Often you will hear someone say I’ve been working out for 2 weeks, but I’m not losing any weight, at the same time their clothes are starting to be a bit loser. Losing fat and becoming healthy is not all about seeing results on the scale.

What we learned? fat is essential for our body to function and operate. It is when we have excess fat that it becomes an issue. Fat is created and stored when we intake food into our body and fail to burn this fat through physical activity and daily body functions. Muscle is built through placing stress on our muscle tissue. We cannot create more muscle tissue in our body, but we can increase the volume of our muscle tissue through exercise. Muscle is denser than fat, burns more calories, and makes the body leaner and healthier.

Does muscle weigh more than fat? No, but 5 pounds of fat has 3 times more volume than 5 pounds of fat.

Can I convert fat to muscle? Not directly, but you can make a swap for 5 pounds of fat for 5 pounds of muscle in the body through diet and exercise.

Does muscle burn more calories than fat? Yes, the actual numbers vary depending on who you talk to, but all agree muscle does burn more calories than fat in all states from rest to exercise.

toast bread crumbs and sesame seeds over high heat about 5 minutes or until golden, stirring frequently. Transfer crumb mixture to plate.

2.In medium bowl, with wire whisk or fork, mix egg white, 1/2 teaspoon five-spice powder, and salt until foamy. Dip tenders in egg-white mixture, then in crumb mixture to coat. Myths and reality of Trans fats

Pain is temporary and trans fats are forever right? Trans fats were first processed to enhance the flavor, texture and shelf life of many processed foods. Trans fats are very rarely found in nature, however in beef and some dairy products it can naturally be found.

The consumption of trans fats increases the risk of coronary heart diseas by raising levels of “bad” LDL cholesterol and lowering levels of "good" HDLcholesterol. Health authorities worldwide recommend that consumption of trans fat be reduced to trace amounts. Essentially trans fats travel to your arteries and turn to sludge.

As stated earlier trans fats can be found in beef and dairy products. Interestingly enough when it is found naturally it has been shown to actually do the opposite of what processed trans fats do. Natural occurring trans fats generally raise HDL’s and lower LDL’s.

In 1994, it was estimated that trans fats caused 20,000 deaths annually in the US from heart disease. It was at this time studies were done and determined just what trans fat were doing to our body, and we began to see a decline in the production of trans fats. Luckily in 2006 trans fats were removed from Oreo cookies, because of a lawsuit. This was actually the first domino to fall as most other manufacturers started to reduce or eliminate trans fats in their products. Thanks Oreo’s!

So the age old question comes up. Do trans fats stay in the body, never to leave? The basic answer is trans fats get processed just like any other fat. If a person consumes large amounts and doesn't exercise, then the fats could potentially not get processed. So the main problem with trans fats is they reduce your good cholesterol and raise your bad cholesterol.
In the end trans fats are like any other fat, no good. So if you must eat trans fats make sure you eat them on the treadmill. So in the end pain is temporary and trans fats are forever if you don’t work them off.
